This long stretched village has a typical ribbon development. The development ribbon starts approximately at the border of Steenwijk and follows the river Steenwijker Aa for a kilometer and a half towards the border with Drenthe. The development of Kallenkote ends at the border of the sand and peat package.
In the village there is a striking memorial stone to six victims of the Second World War. The boulder is located exactly where the execution of six innocent young men took place on October 13, 1944.
Indonesia in Kallenkote The small village of Kallenkote has a surprising attraction within its village limits. The village has an Indonesian Zoo with exotic animal species and an introduction to Indonesian customs: Taman Indonesia.
