The small hamlet of Marijenkampen is located near the provincial border with Friesland, between Willemsoord and Steenwijkerwold. At the beginning of 1900, people spoke of Huttenberg instead of Marijen camps. The area where the town now lies was still covered with heather at the beginning of 1900.
