Scheerwolde, which counts 500 souls, is not far from the town of Blokzijl, near the N333 provincial road between Marknesse and Steenwijk. The place is located between the marshes of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park since then. In 1920, Scheerwolde was put on the map in the "Plan Stroink" as a core municipality for northwestern Overijssel. In 1952 the construction of Scheerwolde was started. Ultimately, the function of the village changed into the satellite municipality of Steenwijkerwold. The function as a core municipality for Northwest Overijssel had disappeared, but Scheerwolde was still a core for the immediate vicinity. The village has a social function and has sufficient facilities.
Place on the map With the introduction of the "Area-oriented Policy", Scheerwolde seemed to have a place on the map again. The Province was working on "The Regional Plan", in which Scheerwolde came into the picture again. This Regional Plan showed that a Village Plan had to be drawn up to make Scheerwolde representative of the region and attractive for the tourist-recreational function that was reserved for it. The Steenwijkerland municipality is developing recreational parks near the village.
